ADULT BALLET, TAP AND MODERN DANCE CLASSES
 

We have adult ballet, tap and modern / street dance classes at varying levels so contact us for more details. Through exercises and routines, you will learn technique and dance movements. Classes help improve fitness (strength, flexibility and stamina), coordination and confidence.  All this whilst meeting new people, forgetting the pressures of everyday life and having fun!




Adult Class Times (Autumn term 2011)


Level I ballet / body conditioning (suitable for those with a little experience)  - Tuesday 7.15-8.15pm
This class focuses on improving strength, flexibility and stamina through ballet related body conditioning exercises and ballet movements and exercises.  Balance, control and coordination are developed as well as a sense of classical style and artistry.  The class is suitable for dancers with one years plus experience in ballet.

                     

Level II ballet (suitable for Grade 4 to Advanced 1 standard) - Monday 8-9pm
A comprehensive ballet class working on technique as well as artistry; suitable for dancers with experience above Grade 4 ballet level or many years experience in ballet.


Level II tap (suitable for those with some basic experience)  - Monday 8.30-9.15pm
In this class, new tap steps are taught and put together in basic sequences to various different types of music.  Rhythm and coordination are improved as well as physical stamina and control.  It is suitable for dancers with at least one years experience in tap.


Level III tap (suitable for Grade 4 to Intermediate standard)  - Tuesday 8.30-9.15pm
A comprehensive tap class suitable for dancers with experience above Grade 4 tap level or many years experience in tap dancing.


Jazz / modern / street / stretch (general level) - Wednesday  8.15-9.15pm
This class includes a thorough warm up, stretching and strengthening work followed by practising different dance movements and ultimately learning two routines of contrasting modern dance styles over the 12 week term.  It is suitable for all levels (except professional).


Please note - we do not currently have any classes for complete beginners but if you are a beginner, please contact us to register your interest and we will get back to you when a new beginners class starts.

  • You can pay by cash (no change will be given), cheque (payable to ‘South London Dance Studios’) or BACS transfer (account details on invoice)
  • It is assumed that you will continue classes from term to term.  If not, half a terms notice is required in writing.  If no notice is given, a full terms fees will be charged in lieu.
  • If the fees for an adult student has not been paid by the given date, a reminder invoice or e-mail will be sent with an extended payment date and an administration fee of £10.00 will be added to the account.  If fees are not paid by the extended payment date and the space is still available at the start of term, the fee will increase the £20.00 to rejoin the school.
  • No change will be given so please ensure that you enclose the correct amount if paying cash
  • No refunds will be given


Adults Uniform List 


All dance clothing items and dance shoes must be purchased from a specialist dance shop.
'Duo Dance' in Herne Hill is the closest – 020 7274 4517. 
'Dancia' in Covent Garden and ‘Julienne’ in Beckenham also stock some items of our uniform. Please do not wear any large items of jewellery. 

Adult tap clothing and shoes
Wear anything comfortable – loose trousers are good with any top
Capezio ‘character’, ‘buckle bar’ or ‘premier’ tap shoes in black

Adult ballet / body conditioning clothing and shoes
Capezio black dance tights
Black canvas split-sole ballet shoes with crossed black elastic
Black leotard (Capezio with bra lining recommended – but without crossed straps)
alternatively,
black vest top and stretchy black shorts
Optional: Capezio black wrap over ballet skirt if wearing leotard

Adult jazz / modern  / street / stretch clothing and shoes
Optional and will depend on style of dance being taught each term.
Come to the first lesson with;
Normal trainers (not muddy!)
Jogging bottoms / jazz pants
Tightish t-shirt or vest top
