OUR STORY SO FAR

South London Dance Studios was founded in Dulwich, SE21 as Grafton Dance Academy in 2001. In 2009 we moved to the former Royal Mail Sorting Office in the centre of Herne Hill, SE24 and were renamed South London Dance Studios.  We are delighted to have three professional standard dance studios of our own, each with sprung floors, mirrors and ballet barres. There are no other dance studios in this area with comparable facilities.

We now have over 650 students of all ages who participate on a weekly basis in the following classes:

  • ‘Melody Movement’ music & dance classes for 18 month to 2 1/2 year olds
  • Nursery & Preparatory dance classes for 2 1/2 to 5 year old boys & girls
  • Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Street & National dance classes for children age 5 plus
  • Specialist Boys training
  • Adult Tap, Ballet / Body Conditioning & Modern / Street dance classes

We have an excellent reputation for providing outstanding dance classes for all ages whether for a hobby or in preparation for a career in dance.

All classes at South London Dance Studios are taught by inspiring and experienced dance teachers & performers. Our teachers consider each child individually; being aware of their physical progress and cognitive, emotional & social development.

Our classes promote confidence through achievement, develop skills for life such as self discipline & persistence, and provide an understanding of the importance of physical activity throughout life.

We have consistently outstanding results for Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance examinations which can be taken from age 5. Students can also participate in ‘Presentations of Class Work’, Shows and Local Dance Event.

Children who show natural physical potential and/or an outstanding sense of performance may be asked join the Festival Team and compete in Regional and National dance competitions, as well as audition for children’s dance companies, the Royal Ballet School associate classes and West End shows.  Several of our ex-students have gone on to train at some of the most highly respected vocational performing arts colleges in the country including: Central School of Ballet, Ballet Rambert, The Urdang Academy, Millennium Dance 2000 and Arts Educational Tring Park.
